SUMMARY:CATCHING 'EM\, KEEPING 'EM\, COOKING 'EM | LINCOLN COUNTY MYCOLOGICAL SOCIETY $10
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 12-2PM -LOCATION: PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH \nIn this workshop\, LCMS presenters will share their best tips on harvesting\, preserving\, and cooking wild mushrooms with a focus on the edible wild mushrooms of the Oregon Coast. The discussion will include their knowledge of flavor profiles and the physical diversity of these mushrooms to decide how best to prepare them for the table. Following the presentation\, participants will enjoy a sampling of “small bites” of several different mushroom dishes made with locally foraged mushrooms and prepared by the Lincoln County Mycological Society’s Kitchen Elves. Each dish is intended to illustrate how people of the world incorporate mushrooms in their cuisine as we celebrate a World of Mushrooms. \nAbout the speakers: \nCathy Piazza\, a native Oregonian\, has lived in Lincoln County since 1988. She is a retired teacher who has been a member of LCMS for more than 5 years. She enjoys foraging for mushrooms and eating them as often as possible. This is all she thinks about during the mushroom season. \nAnna Moore retired from UC Berkeley in 2005 and lives in Florence Oregon\, where she forages in the Siuslaw National Forest for mushrooms and hikes the local beaches for agates. She became interested in mushrooms in the mid-1980s and has foraged for them in California for years. \n \n

SUMMARY:Daniel Winkler: Fruits of the Forest - Choice Edible mushrooms of the PNW
DESCRIPTION:️ Keynote Dinner & Talk – Fruits of the Forest\nFriday\, October 17 | Dinner 5:00–6:30 pm | Keynote 7:00 pm | Yachats Commons \nJoin us for a delicious mushroom-themed dinner by Big Dogs BBQ\, followed by an inspiring keynote presentation from renowned mycologist Daniel Winkler. \nIn his richly illustrated talk\, “Fruits of the Forest\,” Daniel will introduce the Pacific Northwest’s most beloved edible mushrooms—chanterelles\, hedgehogs\, king boletes\, morels\, bear’s head\, and cauliflower mushrooms. Known for being easier to identify\, these mushrooms help beginners overcome “fungophobia” and discover the joys of foraging\, sometimes right in their own backyards. \nDaniel will also touch on more advanced edibles like culinary truffles and trickier mushrooms that require experience for safe identification. Throughout his presentation\, you’ll learn: \n\n\nHow to confidently identify edible mushrooms while avoiding dangerous look-alikes \n\n\nBest practices for harvesting\, transporting\, preparing\, and storing wild mushrooms \n\n\nHow habitat and seasonality are the keys to finding prime mushrooms \n\n\nThis keynote also weaves in fascinating cultural insights from Daniel’s ethno-mycological research and his Mushroaming adventure travels\, all tied together with new knowledge from his book “Fruits of the Forest – Handbook to Edible Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest.” \n️ Tickets: \n\n\nDinner + Keynote: $40 \n\n\nKeynote Only: $10
