Keynote Speaker: Heather Dawson
“Seeking Buried Fungal Treasure: Truffles and the Dogs Who Find Them”
The Pacific Northwest is famous for its incredible variety of mushrooms, but some of its most fascinating fungal treasures are hidden beneath the soil. Our forests are home to hundreds of species of truffle fungi, including the increasingly well-known gourmet truffles found with the help of specially trained dogs.
Heather has been captivated by wild truffles since training her first truffle dog nearly a decade ago. Now a PhD student studying truffle diversity with the help of her dogs, Heather will share her journey into the world of truffle hunting, explore the important role truffles play in forest health, and explain how you can find truffles — with or without a dog!
Keynote tickets may be purchased separately from the dinner. The keynote presentation is limited to 200 guests.
