SATURDAY 2:30-4:30PM – LOCATION: LION’S CLUB

The workshop offers a hands-on experience how to identify mushrooms. You are welcome to bring your own. We will discuss what tools, i.e. books, programs and apps (bring your favorites or get my PNW edible mushroom book “Fruits of the Forest” at the event) are best used to get you started. How to use these tools safely – always double or better triple check someone else’s suggestion and relate an identification to the actual mushroom we try to identify. We will look at the major groups of mushrooms and talk about their specific helpful characteristics for safe identification.

About the speaker: Ethnomycologist and photographer Daniel Winkler grew up collecting mushrooms in the Alps. Winkler has served as vice president of the Puget Sound Mycological Society and, through his travel agency, Mushroaming, he runs mushroom-focused eco-tours around the world. Winkler is this year’s Yachats Mushroom Festival keynote speaker.
